The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club and the City of South Pasadena co-hosted the first annual South Pasadena Pickleball Crown Tournament with all proceeds benefiting the SPCC – SPHS Scholarships. 64 players participated on 32 teams, competing in Men’s Advanced, Men’s Intermediate, Women’s Division, Doubles Division and Beginner/Fun level. With City Councilman Jon Primuth as the event DJ and Mamma’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta hosting the post tournament Awards Party, the truly fun and successful event raised over $8000 for high school scholarships.

Each year, SPCC awards three scholarships, which were established in memory of Dr. Karl Hwang, to qualifying SPHS seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA who will be attending an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S.
Dr. Hwang, a former Club President and Co-Founder, was one of the world’s foremost research scientists in clinical pharmacology.
