SPCC was very excited to be able to once again host a “Dragon Tour” exchange trip to China. In 2019, we brought 37 SPHS students to Nanjing China for the experience of a lifetime. And then in June 2024, we took 46 high school students and 45 middle school students to Wuxi and Nantong. The Dragon Tour has been a recurring trip to China for over 30 years with SPCC. For these last 3 Dragon Tours, SPCC and SPHS has teamed up with Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange (JESIE). China has very much welcomed our group of top South Pasadena students to their beautiful Jiangsu Province to truly experience Chinese culture, language and education. We were thrilled to once again offer this amazing opportunity to South Pasadena High School students.
SPCC – SPHS Dragon Tour Educational Exchange Trip to Jiangsu Province China, March 2025
SPCC and SPHS brought 68 students to Jiangsu Province on an Educational and Cultural Exchange Program where we visited numerous schools in the cities of Lianyungang, Changzhou and Nanjing. Students also enjoyed a variety of cultural experiences walking through beautiful Chinese gardens, visiting museums, and experiencing cultural activities from calligraphy and dumpling making to tai chi and lantern making. New friends were made along the way! We tried a plethora of delicious Chinese cuisine, visited monkeys, and participated in a homestay portion where SPHS students spent the day with a student from the Chinese school we were paired with. Laughter and fun, bus rides throughout Jiangsu, new experiences, and many new wonderful memories were had by all!

I am always impressed with our students’ ability to adapt to the challenges of a high-pace tour filled with buses, new places and social situations. The warmth we felt from the Chinese students and teachers was an expression of their genuine desire for friendship. Let’s keep that in mind when we hear about China in the news.
