SPCC Award $15,000 in Grants to School and Community Programs

South Pasadena, CA: The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club (“SPCC”) held its first annual Grant Award Ceremony on Monday, November 13 at 6:00pm in the South Pasadena Public Library Community Room.

SPCC awarded funds to the following grantees and programs:

Scholarship Awards: 3 awards of $3,000 each

Objective

The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club (SPCC) established this scholarship in memory of Dr. Karl J. Hwang, a biophysical chemist and the late President and Co-Founder of SPCC.

Eligibility

South Pasadena High School (SPHS) graduating seniors with at least a 3.5 GPA who will be attending an accredited four-year college or university in the U.S. in the fall. The deadline for the Karl Hwang Scholarship Application was April 7, 2024.

Application Procedures

The application deadline has passed. SPCC is no longer accepting applications for 2024.

Selection

The selection of the scholarship recipients will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Academic excellence (cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 or better).
  2. Leadership involvement in school and community activities.
  3. Personal statement.

Award Committee

The SPCC Scholarship Committee will select the scholarship recipients. This committee will consist of five or more members appointed by the SPCC Board of Directors.

Notification & Presentation of Award

The scholarship recipients will be notified by announcement at the SPHS Awards Night on May 29, 2024.
