With economic times are tough as they are right now, our city and schools have less resources to work with. In the case of the South Pasadena Chinese American Club, we jump into action.  This year, we have decided to increase our grants and scholarships as just two examples of picking up the slack.

The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club has been among the organizations that have worked with community members to support the goals of community service, educational programs and cultural awareness.  While we have enriched the community with Chinese cultural programs such as the annual Moon Festival and lecture series, our club has also worked closely with the local public school district to help support ALL enriching programs for our students from Math Field Day to Ben Franklin Day.

When the City Administration asks for translators, we are there. When the Public Library needs a sponsor for the summer reading program, we are there. When the school district needs books for the library, we are there. We help where we can, with the resources we have.

This year, the South Pasadena Chinese-American Club is proud to have been selected to receive the “Service Above Self” Organization Award from the South Pasadena Rotary Club. This type of recognition exemplifies the years of selfless contributions of our membership to the community.

To introduce and sustain programs in South Pasadena, we provide an opportunity for community members to participate. Now, more than ever, we ask that if you have a little time to spare, that you join with us – scholarships to students; grants to schools; Moon Festival Fair planning. We work with local groups such as the Educational Foundation, The Chamber of Commerce and The Rotary Club.

This is an opportunity and an open invitation to you - to work with us in your community. I am proud to be a member of the SPCC and I hope that if you are not a member now, you will join.

Overview of Major Club Activities

The South Pasadena Chinese-American Club has three major activities:

Scholarships,    Grants   and   Awards

SPCC typically awards about $10,000 worth of scholarships and grants each year to South Pasadena students.  Each application is reviewed by our Education committee, and applications are accepted in several awards categories.

Community Outreach:  SPCC participates in a number of South Pasadena community events, including the Fourth of July Parade, the Fun Fair (supporting South Pasadena Schools), and others.

Cultural Exchange:  SPCC sponsors cultural exchange events each year, including the annual Moon Festival Celebration.
